Thunder Bay Campus:
- New Program: The Honours Bachelor of Environmental
Management (HBEM) has been announced by the Faculty of Natural Resources
Management, replacing the Environmental Studies (Forest Conservation)
program.
- New Program: The Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, in
conjunction with the Economics Department, has launched the Honours
Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Economics (HBScRee) program.
- The Faculty of Forestry and the Forestry Environment has been renamed the Faculty of Natural Resources Management to better reflect the many areas in which the faculty is engaged, including climate change adaptation, wildlife, conservation, preparation for teacher's college, aboriginal issues, forest science and management, Crown land policy, commodities and value-added wood products, international resource conservation, remote sensing and GIS, conflict resolution, forest health, community interaction, urban forests, ecology ... and more.
- Lakehead has acquired the historic PACI building on Red River Road, which will be home to some Education and Visual Arts classes as well as the new Law School opening in September 2013.
- The new Law School will be opening its doors in September 2013, with 55 new law students currently being admitted. Fall 2014 applications will open in Nov 2013. For complete details on Law School admissions, visit: law.lakeheadu.ca
Orillia Campus:
- Program Change: The Business degree program at the Orillia Campus has been changed to an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Business Administration) (HBComm) (formerly HBComm in Administrative Studies). The program now incorporates more business courses into its curriculum.
- New Program: The Orillia Campus now offers a Criminology
major within the Honours Bachelor of Arts & Science (HBASc) degree.
Criminology students will develop skills in social justice and human
rights,
law and legal institutions, criminalistics, technology and
psychology. Students will take courses in a wide range of areas
including
issues of social, restorative, community, and Indigenous justice.
- New Program: Also new at the Orillia Campus is a Media Studies
major within the Honours Bachelor of Arts & Science (HBASc) degree.
Lakehead’s unique focus is Media Studies for Social Change will provide
students with a well-rounded education in the critical analysis of
media and
the development of media production skills with a focus on social
transformation.
- Majors for the HBASc and HBASc/BEd programs include: Anthropology, Criminology, English, Environmental Sustainability, Geography, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Media Studies.
- Within the HBASc Interdisciplinary Studies major, students may explore both the sciences and the arts by choosing two specializations: Anthropology, Biology, Criminology, English, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Studies, General Science, Geography, History, Media Studies, Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology.
- The 1-Year Bachelor of Education program is offered at the P/J division and offered out of the historic Heritage Building in downtown Orillia.
- The full 4-year HBSW (Social Work) is available direct from high school, as well as the 1-year HBSW for those who already hold a degree.
- The new Orillia Campus, built to LEED® Standards for
Environmental Sustainability (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design), consists of the main Academic Building, Residence Facilities, a
Cafeteria, and Bookstore. New facilities will be added as construction
continues.
