Lakehead University Residence is an exciting environment to be a part of!
At Lakehead University Residence we are concerned with your physical environment and the activities that promote the personal growth of those who make up our Residence Community. University is not limited to simply lectures and laboratories! It is a combination of both in-class and out-of-class learning, meeting new friends, sharing new and past experiences and discovering new insights about the world and yourself. Our Residence community provides an opportunity to further the learning experience that takes place outside of the classroom. In this way you can enhance your educational experience by getting to know and understand each other through exposure to different ideas and ways of life.

Inter-house activities play a big part in the recreational atmosphere of Lakehead University Residence.  By providing the proper physical environment and programming of activities, we hope to foster in our residents a feeling of mutual trust and an increasing sense of responsibility and personal worth.

It is our hope that you will regard Residence as not just a place to keep you warm and dry, but your "home away from home."

The residence features a unique modern design where each student has his/her own single room while sharing a bathroom with only one other person. Each floor houses 40 single rooms, a laundry facility, kitchenette, and quiet room. Residence halls are the preferred type of housing for Secondary School level students who are leaving home for the very first time and coming to University and for upper year students who want convenience. Applying to Residence - Ontario High School Students
Residence is guaranteed to all Ontario high school students, provided that they complete their application and submit the deposit by June 3, 2013. Students apply through the myInfo portal. Login using the same user name and password as your Lakehead email account. Go to the "Housing" section and click on "High School Residence Application and Contract." Your $500.00 room reservation deposit will be applied towards total residence fees. The balance of Residence fees may be paid in two installments, one in August and one in January.

Room Assignments – High School Students
Every effort is made to assign students to their first choice. The personal data section is carefully reviewed to determine room assignment and, in the case of the Orillia Campus Residence, your "canmate" match up (the person you share your washroom with). If you would like to live on the same floor as a particular person, or if you have a preferred "canmate," please indicate this on your application and contract. In August, Residence Services will email your room assignment to you at your Lakehead email account.

Application Procedure - High School Students from a Canadian Province other than Ontario, Mature/Transfer Students, International Students
For information on how to apply to Residence please  please visit the Residence website for instructions.

Room Assignments – High School Students from a Canadian Province other than Ontario, Mature/Transfer Students, International Students
Students whose applications are received by the deadline date and who are admitted to the University are entered into a lottery selection for room placement. Successful lottery applicants will be mailed Residence Room Offers with a specified room assignment and deadline date. Students not entered into the lottery are placed in an active applicant pool. Residence continues to send out room offers to admitted students throughout the summer months until Residence is full.

Lakehead University welcomes all applicants. However, we do not have facilities for married couples or family housing during the fall and winter terms.

Students living in our residence community can expect to:

*live in safe, furnished, and well maintained residence halls, apartments and townhouses

*have opportunities to meet and bond with other students in a wide range of social activities

*be supported both personally and academically by student leaders,

Residence Life staff, and University support services

Off-Campus Housing
Students are encouraged to live in the University Residences to receive the maximum benefits of the University experience. Residence Services operates a year-round Off-Campus Housing List which directs and assists students in obtaining living accommodations in the City of Thunder Bay and Orillia.  Housing information can be obtained from the Off-Campus Housing List.
